President Donald Trump of the United States has announced that he will host Rwandan President Paul Kagame and DRC President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi at the White House in the coming two weeks.

The two heads of state will be welcomed following the cooperation agreement signed between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo on June 27.

In a press conference held last night, Trump said the agreement is expected to bring an end to a conflict that he claimed had lasted 30 years between Rwanda and the DRC.

“On June 27, the foreign ministers of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda came to the White House to sign a historic peace agreement we discussed,” said Trump.

He continued:

“They had been fighting for 30 years. Seven million people died, and many believe the real number is even higher. It was a long and deadly conflict.”

Trump added that within the next two weeks, he will welcome Presidents Kagame and Tshisekedi to finalize the agreement.

The agreement signed on June 27 calls on Kinshasa to dismantle the FDLR terrorist group.

It also outlines economic cooperation between Rwanda and the DRC, particularly in the mining sector.
