On Friday, just a day after Kyiv and Washington signed a landmark minerals agreement, a Russian drone attack injured at least 29 people — including a child — in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia.

Ivan Fedorov, Governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, reported that “29 people were injured as a result of the enemy’s overnight attack” on this key industrial city in southeastern Ukraine. He added that a 13-year-old child was among those wounded in the drone strike.

In a message on Telegram, Fedorov stated: “The Russians targeted civilian infrastructure in the city. Residential buildings, a university, and other infrastructure were damaged.”

He confirmed that Russian forces carried out at least 10 strikes on the city, damaging private homes, high-rise apartment blocks, educational institutions, and essential public infrastructure, according to a report from France24.

Fedorov also noted that three people were rescued from the rubble, and 12 others are currently being treated in hospital.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air defense forces announced they had shot down 64 out of 150 drones launched by Russia throughout the night. The remaining 62 drones reportedly failed to hit their targets, likely due to Ukraine’s electronic warfare countermeasures.
