The President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, has extended his best wishes to Muslims in Rwanda and around the world as they celebrate Eid al-Adha, one of the most important holidays in the Islamic faith.
Through his official X account, President Kagame wrote:
“I wish all Muslims in Rwanda and around the world a joyful Eid al-Adha. May this day leave us with unity, peace, well-being, and compassion for one another. Eid Mubarak!”
Eid al-Adha commemorates the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. This act is seen as a profound lesson in faith, selflessness, and trust in divine will.
During Eid al-Adha, Muslims gather for prayers and offer animal sacrifices—often sheep, cows, or goats. The meat is then distributed among family, friends, and the less fortunate.
In Rwanda, the celebration was marked by communal prayers, messages of reconciliation and compassion, as well as remarks from religious and government leaders. They encouraged Muslims to continue playing a role in building a nation rooted in unity, peace, and collaboration.
