On Monday, June 2, 2025, Rwanda’s Minister of State for Regional Cooperation, Gen. (Rtd) James Kabarebe, hosted Ambassador Philipp Stalder, Head of the Africa Division at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The two officials held discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Switzerland in sectors such as health, education, technical and vocational training, and affordable housing initiatives.

Rwanda and Switzerland have enjoyed strong diplomatic ties, and greater collaboration is expected across various development sectors, aligned with Switzerland’s new Africa Foreign Policy Strategy for 2025–2028.

In November 2023, Rwanda’s Ministry of Education signed a partnership agreement with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to support training programs and education in TVET schools (Technical and Vocational Education and Training).

This agreement also launched a collaboration between Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – School of Tourism and Hospitality in Switzerland, and Rwanda’s Ministry of Education.

The partnership aims to establish a tourism and hospitality school in Rwanda and to promote professional capacity-building in hospitality through model education and training programs for future industry practitioners.
