Rayon Sports Football Club of Rwanda is planning to host Tanzanian music superstar Diamond Platnumz at a major event that will bring together football lovers and music fans in Kigali on what they’re calling “Igikundiro Day.”
The East African music icon will be the guest of honor at a festive match between Rayon Sports and Tanzania’s Yanga Africans, a highly anticipated event that will be a chance to celebrate with the club’s large fanbase in Rwanda.
Diamond Platnumz is coming to fulfill a commitment made in 2022, when he was scheduled to perform in Kigali but the show was canceled. He had been paid about $50,000 by Rayon Sports’ main sponsor for that performance.
At the time, Diamond did not return the money, instead promising it would cover his next Kigali appearance. That’s why the event organizers have now reached out again to finalize the deal.
According to SK FM, both sides are progressing well in the discussions, and the only thing left is confirming Diamond Platnumz’s availability for “Igikundiro Day.”
On December 22, 2022, Diamond was expected to land at Kanombe International Airport with his private jet at 4 PM, but the visit never happened. No official explanation was given by the event organizers.
At the time, reports suggested the cancellation was due to issues with the contract or permission delays to land his private jet at the airport.
The concert, which was scheduled for December 23, 2022, at BK Arena, was called off with no further updates from the organizers or the artist.
This time, Rayon Sports’ management says everything has been sorted out, and the only thing remaining is aligning the artist’s calendar with the fan celebration date.
