The Intermediate Court of Gasabo has heard a case involving a housemaid accused of attempting to poison members of the household she worked for by putting poison in their milk. The verdict is expected to be delivered at the end of next week.

The alleged crime occurred on May 7, 2025, in Bugesera District, Nyamata Sector, Maranyundo Cell, where the girl, who had been working in that household for three years, allegedly mixed RABTRAZ 12.5% EC, a cattle-cleaning chemical, into milk with the intent of causing harm to the household so she could steal from them.

According to the National Public Prosecution Authority, the maid confessed during the trial, saying she regretted her actions and asked for forgiveness, promising never to think of such a thing again.

The hearing has concluded, and the final ruling will be issued on July 18, 2025.

Under Article 110 of Law No. 68/2018 of 30/08/2018, which defines offenses and penalties in Rwanda, anyone who gives another person something that can cause immediate or delayed death, regardless of the means or method, commits a criminal offense. If convicted, the offender faces a life sentence.

According to Article 21 of the same law, if the offense is punishable by life imprisonment, attempted commission of the crime is punishable by 25 years in prison.
