The Chairman of Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR) asks the Government to put all the collective efforts together towards increasing salaries of medical doctors and other health officers in the exact sector, and to establish a development fund for the media in order to increase its capacity.
This was said on June 17th, during the youth congress in the Eastern province, organized by the DGPR. This general meeting was held in Kayonza District, where the youth were first given training on equality, gender parity plus the principles and objectives of this party.
The leader of this party, Dr Frank Habineza, said that the Government of Rwanda has already implemented the resolutions include raising salaries of teachers, security personnel among others and they are so proud, thankful of that.
Dr Habineza said there are things that have not been implemented, including raising salaries of those working in the health sector, as well as establishing an agency that promotes an independent media in Rwanda.
He said “The government should make sure the salaries of the doctors, nurses and other medical specialist are increased so that we do not have brain drain, and this should be done as soon as possible so that they can work with morals during service delivery in hospitals.”
The DGPR leader requested the government of Rwanda, in its capacity, to see how the medical officer’s salaries can be increased in December, when the government’s budget will be revised.
He went on to say that in their manifesto they also included the development of independent media, because they see it deserves help in order to develop further. He said, “We asked for a fund to develop an independent media because the state has capacity. We want funds that will help different media houses to be borrowing money at a low rate.”
“Many media outlets have gone out of business and closed down, and even print media have to a standstill because it’s too expensive to print.” Dr. Habineza said that the print media used to promote the culture of reading but most of them were forced to leave it due to high costs involved.
He said that he has a request that the RBA as a state media should be given 100% of the state’s budget; so that they leave advertising and looking for other money, because makes it harvest all the money which leaves the independent ones so hungry.
Dr. Habineza said that before the presidential elections start in 2024, DGPR will put out a new manifesto, which will contain many activities that will contribute to the improvement of the country’s socio-economic development.
