The Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has launched a scathing attack on Maj. Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu, a former army commander, calling him a coward and a waste.
Maj. Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntuyera served as Uganda’s army commander between 1989 and 1998.
Gen. Muhoozi’s outburst came after Muntu publicly called on President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Muhoozi’s father, to take responsibility and act on his son’s troubling behavior.
This follows a recent post on Muhoozi’s X account (formerly Twitter) where he boasted about torturing Eddie Mutwe, the security chief of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine).
Muntu, reacting to the post (which included a photo of Mutwe), appealed to Museveni, saying:
“To the Commander-in-Chief Gen. YK Museveni, I beg you to be guided by your own teachings… on the recklessness of past armies (UA, UNLA), their consequences and impunity. You are the Commander-in-Chief. This is now your issue. Do something. Time is running out.”
In response, Muhoozi lashed out at Muntu on social media:
“You’ve always been a coward and a useless man, Greg! The biggest mistake we ever made was appointing you army commander.”
Since leaving the army, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has joined the political opposition. In the 2021 presidential elections, he contested against President Museveni but was defeated.
