Results for the 2021/22 senior six national examinations (A-Level) were released on Thursday at the Ministry of Education headquarters showing an improvement in the general performance.
The results announced by the Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary Education, Gaspard Twagirayezu, shows an improvement in the performance compared to the last year which was at 85.3 per cent, while this year the performance was at 94 per cent.
All categories (general education, Teacher Training College (TTC), and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)) performed well over 90 per cent
The general education 44,818 candidates passed which represents 94.6 percent of all candidates of which 41,636 got two principal passes while in TVET, 20,752 passed the exams which constituting 97.8 per cent of the candidates who sat for exams out of those, 20,591 secured two principal passes.
In TTC, out of 2,895 candidates who sat for exams, 99.9 per cent passed the exams.
Speaking during the release of results, the Director General of the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), Bernard Bahati, said that it’s not possible to make a comparison of this year to next year since the grading system changed.
However, this year there is an increase in all levels compared to last year’s numbers where in Senior Six, candidates who passed constituted 85.3 per cent and while in TVET, 95.7 passed. TTC registered a minor increment of 0.01. Last year, TTC had 99.8 per cent obtaining a pass mark while this year the number stands at 99.9 per cent.
The pass mark with the new grading system for both General Education, TVET, and TTC was set at nine points, with the highest score being 60 respectively.
