1. Background Information
Job Title: System Administrator
Institution: Sonarwa General Insurance
Department/ Section/Unit: Information Technology
Reports to: Manager Information Technology
2. Purpose of the Job:
The System Administrator addresses systems issues to sustain application functionality and identify process improvement opportunities across Sonarwa’s systems environment.
3. Main Responsibilities of the Job:
Work with user departments to continuously identify changing business requirements and ensure these are translated to the business applications;
Understand business process management and business requirements of the users and translate them to specific software requirements for system design development;
Document systems’ manuals including technical and user manuals and write technical procedures and documentation for custom systems applications including operations, user guide, for new and existing applications;
Train system users where necessary and assist in support of the business applications as and when required;
Provide technical expertise and recommendations in assessing new and existing IT systems, software projects and initiatives to support and enhance their secure and efficient use;
Diagnose and resolve overall system software problems;
Configures, maintains and upgrades Computer/Server, automation equipment systems’ hardware/software;
Prepare and submit monthly reports on the performance of Sonarwa’s systems;
Participate on IT project steering committees and be involved in the design phase of any new IT software development projects;
Create new users, update the status of users, and giving access rights to protect confidentiality of data for Sonarwa
Build, configure and troubleshooting of servers a to ensure the system are effective and operational
Implement operations back up policy to enhance business recovery and continuity due to availability of information
4. Performance indicators
Accurate configuration of new products, commission and changes in tariffs on products
Timely back up of all transactions
Set up and modification of user accounts in an accurate manner against set timelines
5. Working relationships
Required to liaise and work closely with the other departments as may be necessary
IT suppliers and vendor
6. Professional, academic qualifications and experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, computer engineering, information systems or any other relevant degree
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in system administration from an organization of similar size and complexity in operations
