The Prosecution at the Intermediate Level in Rubavu District has submitted a case to the Rubavu Intermediate Court against a woman accused of killing her partner—whom she lived with without formal marriage—by hitting him in the head with an axe, after discovering he was living with another woman in Burera District.
According to the National Prosecution Authority, the alleged crime took place on the night of June 25, 2025, in Yungwe Village, Yungwe Cell, Kanama Sector, Rubavu District.
The suspect confessed that she struck the man with an axe after learning that he was cheating on her and living with another woman where he worked, in Burera.
She explained that when he returned home on June 25, she asked him about the affair. When he admitted to it, she was overcome with rage, picked up an axe, and hit him once in the head, killing him instantly.
The woman and the deceased had been living together for seven years and had two children.
She is being charged with intentional homicide, a crime defined and punished under Article 107 of Law No. 68/2018 of August 30, 2018, on offences and penalties in general.
