The Belgian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prévot, is in Doha this Sunday and Monday for a visit aimed at “strengthening political relations, showcasing Belgium’s economic expertise, and addressing major humanitarian and social issues.”
Prévot is expected to meet with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as well as the Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad.
According to Prévot’s office, Qatar has expressed interest in establishing a special partnership in mediation, a field in which “Belgium has considerable expertise in various regions around the world.”
Prévot’s team noted: “The discussions will also focus on regional security, compliance with international humanitarian law, and the role of dialogue in resolving global challenges.”
The Minister will also visit Belgian companies operating in Qatar, to “highlight Belgian capabilities and promote new economic partnerships, particularly in the gas sector.” A meeting with the Qatari Business Association is also scheduled.
In a statement, Prévot emphasized:
“The progress made on women’s rights in Qatar is encouraging. We want to support them, because a society that includes everyone is stronger, fairer, and more prosperous.”
