On the afternoon of Sunday, July 6, at Village Urugwiro, President Paul Kagame joined the Broadband Commission in celebrating 15 years of expanding internet access, a mission led by this commission dedicated to promoting broadband connectivity.

President Kagame, who participated virtually, said:
“It has been 15 years since we began with the shared belief that broadband must reach everyone, everywhere. Today, broadband drives economic empowerment, expands access to knowledge, and brings families closer together.”

Speaking on behalf of Carlos Slim, co-chair of the Broadband Commission with President Kagame, Carlos M. Jarque added:
“Since 2010, internet users have grown by billions. To sustain this progress, we need forward-looking policies, strong investment, the integration of technology into business and government institutions, and widespread digital literacy.”

President Kagame co-chairs the Broadband Commission alongside Carlos Slim. The session was chaired by Doreen Bogdan-Martin, the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
