Doctors in the Democratic Republic of Congo have warned the government that they might relocate to Rwanda if it fails to pay the salary arrears owed to them.

The doctors issued the warning on Wednesday, May 13, during a protest demanding immediate payment from the state.

The protest took place in the capital, Kinshasa.

In videos circulating on social media, the protesting doctors can be heard singing songs telling the government: “If you don’t want to pay us, we’re moving to Rwanda. We’re tired of Congo.”

They were also seen carrying placards with messages urging the DRC government to pay their salaries and bonuses without delay.

The unpaid wages the doctors are demanding date back to January this year.

These health workers are complaining of hunger, while President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi recently announced that salaries would be increased for doctors and other civil servants, including soldiers.
