The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), in collaboration with the Rwanda National Police, has arrested 11 people suspected of damaging infrastructure and stealing 1.5 tonnes of electrical cables in Gasabo, Kicukiro, Nyarugenge, Kamonyi and Bugesera districts.
Those arrested include individuals suspected of stealing electrical cables from buildings, transporting them, purchasing stolen cables, collecting them and buying them in bulk. The recovered cables are valued at FRW 20,750,000.
The suspects are being investigated for three offences: forming or joining a criminal gang, damaging infrastructure or electricity supply equipment, and theft. They are currently detained at RIB stations in Kicukiro and Nyarugenge.
RIB warns and cautions anyone involved in damaging infrastructure to stop such acts, as they have serious consequences for the country's development.
