This past Saturday, May 3rd, the Rwanda National Police officially bid farewell to 150 police officers who were recently retired from active service.
The group of retirees includes 45 junior officers and 105 non-commissioned officers.
Presiding over the ceremony at the Rwanda National Police Headquarters in Kacyiru, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza praised the retirees for their dedication, discipline, and years of service.
She also extended heartfelt appreciation to their families, who supported them throughout their careers — often sacrificing precious time with their loved ones due to the demanding nature of policing duties.
DIGP Ujeneza said:
“Even though you are retiring, the responsibility to safeguard our country’s security continues. We will always work together, just as we always have.”
She encouraged them to continue embodying patriotism, integrity, and selflessness in their next chapter of life, assuring them that Rwanda National Police would always view them as part of its extended strength in ensuring national security and development.
Retired Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bernard Gahonzire, speaking on behalf of the retirees, expressed gratitude to His Excellency President Paul Kagame for granting them a dignified retirement.
He also thanked the leadership of the Rwanda National Police for consistently standing by them and facilitating their professional responsibilities.
He stated:
“Our time in service has been a long, valuable journey where we’ve gained lessons and values that will guide us beyond retirement.”
Gahonzire reaffirmed that even in retirement, they would remain committed to the oath they took, remembering the honor and privilege of having contributed to building their nation — and pledged to continue doing so wherever their service would be needed.
