The government of Rwanda through Rwanda development board (RDB) and National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) announced it’s need for inventors in cannabis planting.
It’s after a long time of ban for its use. The trade of cannabis in Rwanda has been one among the crime that is highly charged.
The government has announced the couple of numbers of seekers to collaborate in the project and and called up on other wishers to present their precised plan before working with RDB and NAEB.
The decision for planting and exporting of cannabis has been taken during the cabinet meeting held yesterday.
Cannabis is going to start being legally planted in Rwanda after a long time of ban specially its import from neighboring countries like DRC Congo &Tanzania.
in Rwanda national police’s statistical report reveals that in the year 2014, 2,151 people were caught accused of it’s use and trade there fore 5 people would be caught daily.
In 2015 the detainees number reduced to 205 whereas in 2016 the number increased to 294. In 2017 & 2018 the number was around 1000.
in an exclusive interview with Rwanda broadcasting agency, Minister of health Daniel Ngamije revealed that its planting will be highly sacured for only medicinal purpose.
He further added that its planting will not give a room for drug takers as the law banning it’s usage continues and will too.
RDB revealed out that exporting of cannabis to international market will increase the amount of foreign dollars, attract tourists and providing jobs for the people neighboring the plantations.
Rwanda to implement this project is not unusual as it’s also legally planted in some of the countries in the region.
in Uganda More than 100 companies requested to plant cannabis and in April one of the companies exported 250kg to Israel on 1.500$/kg
Lack of cannabis in Israel made the authorities come in Uganda for open business, as Uganda supplies 2,5 of cannabis in the Israelites medicinal factories.
In March last year , the government of Kenya was forced to deny the rent of land for 25yrs to American government for the planting of cannabis,
the government of Kenya further added that planting and Trade of this drug is illegal
In December last year, Zambia pledged to generate 30 million dollars from cannabis export.
