On Thursday, June 19, the High Court instructed the prosecution to conduct a thorough investigation into politician Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza, after determining that she may have connections to a plot aimed at overthrowing Rwanda’s government.

Ingabire appeared in court to respond to questions concerning charges against nine members of her Dalfa‑Umurinzi party, accused of participating in training intended to remove the government without violence.

She had been summoned after prosecutors repeatedly suggested during previous hearings that she was linked to these trainings.

During her testimony, Ingabire admitted knowing all nine accused individuals, but insisted that neither she nor her party had organized or were involved in such training—particularly noting that Dalfa‑Umurinzi is not legally authorized in Rwanda.

After approximately two hours of private judicial discussion to evaluate her explanations, the court announced its decision.

The judges concluded that the prosecution must carry out a comprehensive investigation into Ingabire’s possible role.

They stated that her explanations were insufficient and that evidence indicating her involvement exists.

Presiding over the session, the judge ordered that the prosecution complete the investigation and report back to the court within two weeks, starting from Friday, June 20, 2025.
