On the morning of Sunday, May 11, 2025, a 45-year-old man named Nkundiye Laurent was found dead inside the Bihari Cell office, in Ruhuha Sector, Bugesera District. It is suspected that he may have committed suicide or died as a result of abuse before his death.
Reports indicate that on the night before his death, the deceased caused disturbances twice in separate incidents. This led to his arrest by professional night patrol agents who detained him at the local office.
Some residents told BTN TV, which reported the story, that they suspect he may have been severely beaten before dying, and that those who arrested him might have staged the scene to make it look like a suicide.
One neighbor said: “They took off his shirt, tied it around his neck and hung him on a pole, trying to make it look like he hanged himself.”
Uwamugira Marthe, Executive Secretary of Ruhuha Sector, confirmed the incident but stressed that the exact cause of death remains unknown as investigations are ongoing.
