Rwanda National Electoral Commission chairperson Prof. Kalisa Mbanda has passed away this Friday, 13 January.
Reports say that Mbanda breathed his last in Rwanda Military hospital based in Kanombe.
Charles Munyaneza, the Executive Secretary of the National Electoral Commission confirmed his death, saying “It is true. We have received information from people at Rwanda Military Hospital about his demise.”
Prof Mbanda Kalisa has been NEC’s chairperson since 2012, after succeeding Prof Chrysologue Karangwa.
His mandate at NEC according to Munyaneza had come to an end, but he has been going to work there till Wednesday. Before his death he has paid a visit in his farm early today, before heading to Military hospital.
Apart from being National Electoral Commission boss, Mbanda was on another hand Kigali Independent University honorable Vice Chancellor.
