Rwanda’s Education Minister Dr Uwamariya Valentine recently told a gathering that 1,000 teachers leave the profession every month, The Chronicles wrote on Twitter April 26, 2022.
The development means that government has to constantly recruit teachers.
“What in your opinion needs to be done to keep our educators in class?” The Chronicles asked on Twitter.
In Comment section, one Rwamuhizi Faustin said ” I was a teacher myself for 2 years before leaving for higher education. Teachers need i. a living wage, ii. Acceptable work conditions (including but not limited to optimum class sizes, benefits, teaching aids), iii. Dignity (in relation to parents & government)”
Once you understand the reason for the high turnover, then you can chart a course that can help prevent this? Surely the first step is to determine what the teachers are saying?” Wrote Piers Pigou
