Rwandan journalist, Janvier Popote, who is in DRC said the rebels have advanced on the battlefield after capturing Nyundo hill.

“Greetings from #M23 positions. #FARDC soldiers have been chased from here (Nyundo hill). Other areas conquered by M23 in the last 4 days include Kabuhanga border with Rwanda, Kibumba centre, Kanyamahoro and Kamakoma. Fighting underway in Kibati, just 5 kilometers away from Goma.” Popote wrote on Twitter

However, our reliable informant who is in DRC says ” That is not true. There is no fighting at Kibati axis. It has stopped. The rebels are now in 10km or so towards Goma. The government forces are situated at Kilimanyoka.”

FARDC have not yet commented on the matter. However, local authorities recently said the situation is under control.

Other reports from DRC say it is still unclear who controls Kibumba town, located in 20km from Goma, though our informant confirmed Kibumba is under full control of M23.
